무려 2014년 11월 출시한 핫토이의 아티스트 컬렉션 2번째 시리즈 켈베로스 사가의 펜저야거 - 인랑 입니다.
오시이 마모루 감독의 켈베로스 사가를 바탕으로 디자인 된 제품이며, 2011년도 부터 기획되어 3년동안 개발되었고 처음 프로토 타입은 스태츄 피규어였는데 개발을 거쳐 핫토이에서 관절 액션 피규어로 발매되었다고 하네요.
뒷편에는 삽화가 프린팅 되어있고 프로젝트에 참여한 사람들의 이름이 적혀있습니다.
오시이 마모루 감독, MASAAKI KOSEKI, 김용겸 작가, 박종혁, 강성민, 고형석, 김유미 작가, 홍진철 작가 등이 참여하였습니다. 다른분들은 어떨지 모르는데 홍진철 작가님은 아직 핫토이에서 이사로 일하시며 페인팅 작업을 맡고계시죠.
박스는 면적이 굉장히 큰 1단 구성입니다. 큰 박스에 오밀조밀하게 루즈가 들어가있습니다. 풍부한 루즈에 보기만해도 뿌듯해지네요.
헤드는 실존인물이 아닙니다. 오시이 마모루 감독이 각본을쓰고 오키우라 히로유키씨가 감독을 맡은 극장판 애니메이션 '인랑'에서는 배경이 일본이고 등장인물도 일본인으로 나오는데 핫토이 제품은 서양인의 얼굴로 제작되었습니다. 키도 굉장히 큰 편입니다.
아마 디자인 배경 때문에 이렇게 된 듯 한데, 이 제품의 디자인을 담당한 일러스트레이터 스에미 준씨는 중세 기사의 갑옷과 2차 세계대전 당시 독일군 장비에서 영감을 받아 이 제품을 디자인 했다고 합니다.
중세 = 유럽, 독일 = 유럽. 그래서 동양인이 아니라 서양인으로 조형된듯 하네요. 한눈에 봐도 중세 기사와 독일 장비 느낌이 나는게 디자인을 정말 잘 했다는 생각이 듭니다.
설정상으로는 34식 특수 강화 장갑복 (프로텍트 기어)로 세계 최초의 특수 강화 장갑이고 방어력은 약해 권총에도 뚫렸다고 하네요. 1942년 동부전선에 분위기를 반전시키기 위해 스탈린그라드로 투입된 무장친위대 제 101특무대가 착용했다고 합니다.

최근 발매한 팝토이의 중세 나이트 들은 실제 다이캐스트로 된 쇠사슬갑옷을 입고있는데, 아쉽게도 이 제품에선 다이캐스트가 아니라 스폰지같은 재질입니다.
프로텍트 기어 안에 입은 반팔 아머가 진짜 다이캐스트로 된 사슬이었다면 정말 감동했을텐데 조금은 아쉬운 부분이네요.
얼굴은 DX12 처럼 자석으로 부착이됩니다. 볼조인트가 아니라 파손 걱정이 없습니다.
특기대의 상징 화기인 MG42 기관총과 탄띠, 마우저C96 권총, 방탄모와 교체가능한 손파츠, 무전기와 무전기를 멜 수 있는 군장(?) 탄박스, 마스크와 마스크를 착용 시키는 LED 얼굴이 있습니다.
애니 원작에서도 MG42와 마우저 C96 권총을 사용하는데 이건 독일군이 실제로 사용했었던 장비입니다.
그리고 어마어마한 디테일의 베이스까지.
이 베이스가 나온건 이 켈베로스가 처음이고 이후에 캡틴아메리카 시빌워 배틀링 버전과 알리타에서 재탕됩니다.
베이스에는 발을 올려둘 수 있는 공간이 정해져있습니다. 벽돌 사이에 탄피를 피해 두군데 양발을 올릴 수 있게 되어있는데 이 부분에 자석이 심어져있고 피규어 발에도 자석이 심어져있어 올려두면 딱! 달라붙습니다.
하지만 따로 고정할만한 지지대가 없기 때문에 앉히는게 국룰.
2014년 발매 제품이라 관절이 요즘나오는 것 처럼 엄청 빡빡하진 않더라구요. 자칫 넘어질 위험이 있어 앉혀둡니다.
AKS 소총과 장검은 따로 루즈를 구해서 장비해주었습니다.
베이스며 본체며 오밀조밀 디테일한 묘사가 많아서 볼거리가 많고 봐도봐도 질리지가 않습니다. 애니메이션 인랑의 96식 프로텍트 기어의 심플하면서 묵직한 맛을 좋아하는데 이 34식 제품도 상당히 마음에 드네요.
미개봉품은 찾아볼수도 없고 가격도 많이 올라서 중고 존버하다가 운좋게 상태좋은 제품을 구해서 만족스럽습니다. 무려 전 주인분이 미개봉을 구매하셔서 첫 개봉한 제품이라 진짜 세재품이라고 봐도 무방할 정도로 좋은 상태였네요. 발매한지 7년이 지났으니 이정도 상태를 구하는것도 힘들텐데.., 뿌듯!

Following the official introduction of the Kerberos Panzer Jager: 1/6th scale Protect Gear Collectible Figure from the Artist Collection yesterday which over eight artists from Japan and Korea together with our Hong Kong Production Team have joined forces for this collaboration, we are pleased to talk to our Hot Toys’ Production Director & Chief Painter, Mr. JC. Hong, to share more about this incredible and special project which is based on illustrations from the Kerberos Panzer Jager official guidebook by Mr. Jun Suemi in 2006.
Q: How did Hot Toys get involved in this project?
JC.: This goes a few years back, I was approached by Mr. KAZ from BARQUE Inc. who owned the rights of Kerberos Saga* and asked if I was interested in making a Protect Gear figure. Our Founder Howard and I were big fans of the Kerberos Saga so we were excited to participate in this project.
Q: How long was the development for this project and what was the process like?
JC.: It has started back in 2011, so it has taken 3 years since the project began to the finished prototype we have now. Over the years, we had lots of discussions and made many adjustments to the figure. Mr. Takayuki Takeya** and his team first worked on the prototype, and then it was brought to Korea for more work. Because the prototype was a statue in the beginning, we needed to think hard on how we can fit it well with Hot Toys’ articulated figure body.
Q: How do you feel about the original design of the Protect Gear?
JC.: The design is quite amazing! Mr. Jun Suemi***, the original designer for the Kerberos Panzer Jager Protect Gear, was a fan of medieval knight armor and he incorporated those elements into World War II German military gear which transformed into the Protect Gear you see now. Within the plot of the Kerberos Saga, this is the original design that has “inspired” the Tokyo police force to make their own Protect Gear team. I think the design itself would make an excellent action figure and also be a quite functional armor in real life.
Q: What are some of the special elements about this Protect Gear figure?
JC.: The painting technique that has been applied is quite unique. Under different lighting, you will sometimes see a more metallic look while other times see a more matte look. You will really need to see this figure in person to truly admire its beauty.
Also, the figure base is another highlight for this project. The plot of Kerberos Panzer Jager is really a human story about how war is terrible. The government forces its people into war by dressing them up in gears, sending them to dangerous missions, and many will die fighting for their country. I want that heavy feeling of a soldier to be reflected in this figure and the diorama base really helps set that tragic of war tone and story.
Q: What are the challenges for creating this figure?
JC.: The articulations and movements were some of the biggest challenges. For example, when holding weapons, the shoulder armor’s movement may be hindered, so we created 2 layers of armor on the Protect Gear to make it easier to move the arms.
Q: Do you have other messages that you would like to say to the fans?
JC.: This Protect Gear has incorporated the many great efforts from a number of artists from Japan and Korea as well as the Hot Toys Hong Kong Production team! I hope many fans will be able to enjoy and appreciate this wonderful artistic figure!

The Kerberos Saga (ケルベロス・サーガ) is a military science fiction franchise and alternate history universe created in 1986 by the Japanese writer and filmmaker Mamoru Oshii who is also famous for his work on Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor series. The Kerberos Saga spans across a number of media such as feature films, radio dramas, comics, and animation films. The story is based upon altered historical events which lead to a world very different from the one we live today.

Mr. Takayuki Takeya has been acclaimed for his outstanding sculpting skill and designs especially for his unique creature and organic mechanical designs that are driven by his distinctive interpretation and vision. Back in 2001, Mr. Takayuki has collaborated with Hot Toys to present the amazing Samurai Predator that has combined elements of traditional Japanese samurai style with a Western pop culture icon – the Predator. In 2006, Mr. Takayuki Takeya was approached by BARQUE Inc. to create a model statue of Protect Gear based on illustrations from the Kerberos Panzer Jager official guidebook by Mr. Jun Suemi.
